Snowflakes are Falling

I received $73 yesterday from a couple of different sources. And wow! was it hard not to add some money to the grocery budget for the week. It was even harder to avoid the temptation of eating out because yesterday was such a hectic day.

After school yesterday, I had a meeting of "Delta Kappa Gamma", an eduction honor society to which I belong. It was our final meeting of the year and we were initiating new members in a banquet room of a local restaurant. It was early afternoon so I was not really hungry. They served us tea for free and we were invited to eat from the dessert bar for $4. What I really wanted to do was to call the hostess over and order 4 "to go" meals. I knew I would not have time to cook anything before my husband left for his 2nd job at UPS.

But I didn't order. I called my husband and explained that dinner was not going to happen. He ate a chicken club sandwich (with leftover chicken) and a bag of chips. Once I got home, it was too late to cut up the veggies for veggie fettucini, so I cooked "breakfast for dinner" and we had scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast. I don't have leftovers to take for lunch today so I will have to find something creative and avoid the temptation to eat out once again!

So, I have $73 in snowflake money to apply toward my IRS payoff. I'm making the payment this morning so I don't have that money sitting in my pocket.

How have you avoided temptations to spend money unnecessarily lately?

Great job, Angie! We had eggs and toast for dinner last night, too. We were gone all day, everything worth eating was frozen and I had to run off to work. I REALLY wanted to pick up a couple pizzas, but we did the breakfast thing instead. It all adds up little by little.

I am really impressed!! Way to go! You did a great job of resisting the temptation. I'm sure you did better than I would in that situation.

Oh boy I was out the other day and starving!! I wanted to swing by a drive through and just pick up something off the .99 menu so bad - I kept saying "It's only .99 and it will hold me over until I can make something for dinner." But I resisted the urge and said I can wait until I get home. I was so proud of myself! Then I got home and pigged out. LOL

I tagged you for a meme if you are interested...if not, that's fine. You are such an interesting person so I thought it would be neat to read what you had to say.

I live within walking distance of the gym I belong to, so DD and I have been going there most days instead of running all over town. This is saving us gas money, still getting us out of the house, plus it is beneficial to my health. Well that and DD gets to play with other kids and with new to her toys. :)

We are on a "no eating out challenge" right now--We have not ate out for a little over a month and we plan to go until we hit our Vacation in mid June.

My account is really showing a difference too!

A tip to share from the Tightwad Books. I try and keep a small cooler of water or tea with me when I leave the house and I keep healthy munchie snacks in my van--granola bars, small pretzel bags, canned fruit.

So when myself or the kids get the munchies or you hear "I am thirsty mama" You can whip out your survival bag and steer clear of the nasty overpriced drive thru!

If you are super thirsty and you just dont have anything--think about the gas station--you can get way more bang for your buck as far as the size of your drink. My husband and I would get big slurpie drinks and split them for a lot less than two cokes at Mcds

Good luck on your IRS paydown! It will feel great to get them off your back I am sure!
