Our town recently began hosting a Farmer's Market (or Farmers' Market?) on Saturday mornings from 8 until noon. I have visited the market 4 times and have been very pleased with the quality and price of the items offered for sale.
We are in prime "summer" garden production here in North Florida. I thought I would let my local readers know what is for sale at our market and encourage you to visit and support our local farmers. Here's what the email for this week said would be for sale:
Sweet Corn (I heart fresh corn!)
zucchini
yellow squash
onions
herb garden plants
kale
chives
carrots
tomatoes
cabbage
new potatoes
bell peppers
cantaloupe
cucumbers
collards
pecans
farm fresh eggs
variety of annual flowers
variety of perennial flowers
homemade breads and sweets
dried spices (these are only $1 per container usually!)
alcohol-free flavorings
and possibly other great things!

Can you say what town you are in? We are in Clermont. I would LOVE to hit a good market...thanks!!!!
Hi Kristina,
I live in Starke. It's about 30 miles NE of Gainesville.
I have not gone this year but we stopped by our local Saturday market last year and it was really expensive. Everyone had a sign saying they were certified organic farmers and it was all really pricey. In Florida we had a market with all the good veggies and there is one down the street from my in laws in North Mobile. Marva from Blessed Frugalness Times Two With Twins is about an hour away and her family has an indoor produce market. I am going to go when more is in season and load up on field peas, corn, okra, and butterbeans.
I shop occasionally and I try to take only small bills. When negotiating with the vendors, it is easier to get a good deal if you have exact change. Of course, it's easier to deal in small bills anyway since they don't have to count out so much change.
Angie, where is it at? My dh could stop by on his way home.
Hi Donna,
It's at the bradford health department each Saturday from 8 to noon.
I shop at the local farmer's market at the very end of their day. They don't want to take the produce home and will typically charge me half price. Totally worth it as the produce is just fine.
I like the idea of going near the end of the day. I'll have to try that next week!
We actually just went to our local Farmers Market this morning! Like yours, it is every Saturday, 8am-1pm. I have found the prices to be comparable, if not slightly less expensive than the local chain grocery stores.
man i am in Jacksonville and i hit the flea market up every weekend almost and there are quite a few vendor but there is one vendor that is soooooooo cheap i get a ton of veggies for usually under 10 bucks when i get fruit it goes up to around 20 but still a lot cheaper then the regular store!!
